Severe Weather
GUIDANCE FOR PARENTS IN THE EVENT OF
SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS
Assume the school will be open, regardless of the severity of the weather, unless notified by the school. There is no need to telephone the school.
- Many staff live close to the school; we will make every effort to open the building.
- If, for any reason, the school must be close, parents will be informed by text message. A message will also be posted on our school Facebook page and on the school website HOME page.
- The decision to send your child to school rests with you. This should be based on your own circumstances – where you live, travel safety and your confidence in the conditions.
- Please ensure your child/children are suitably dressed for the weather conditions.
- Vehicle and pedestrian access to the school is flat.
- We have contracted Greentown to salt the car park (via TESCO) during school terms. Parents, children and staff should still exercise great care. The resurfaced section of the carpark to the left as you enter can become extremely slippery.
The school playground will have a cleared pathway. This will be salted from the gate to the conservatory entrance door. Staff will ensure that children remain on this pathway.
- Decisions about whether children may go outside will be made throughout the day following a risk assessment and consultation with staff.
- Should children already be in school and the weather deteriorates significantly, parents will be contacted to collect children earlier than usual.
Please note
It is the Principal’s responsibility, acting on behalf of the Board of Governors, to decide whether the school should close.
The Caretaker will:
- Salt paths into school, both (front and back) and the area outside the school gate.
- Ensure there is sufficient oil for severe weather conditions.
- Keep heat on full time at a low setting during very extreme weather conditions.
